|
 |
 |
What will the web application check for when applying for a carpool? |
 |
- Persons in more than one carpool
- Persons listed twice in the same carpool or in additional carpools
- Persons registered for a carpool permit and a regular permit
- Persons that live within 3 miles from the campus boundary
- Any participant providing fraudulent information in order to obtain a carpool permit will be removed from the carpool and the following actions will be taken: the vehicle displaying the fraudulently obtained permit will be impounded, issued a citation, and the owner of the vehicle will be required to pay for the pro-rated use of the parking facility from the date the permit was issued through the date the fraud was discovered. How will I be notified and confirmed as accepted in a carpool? |
 |
Upon approval or disapproval, the Primary permit holder will be notified by email. |
|
 |
 |
Can I register for my own individual permit and also be a part of a carpool? |
 |
No. Persons listed as carpool participants are not eligible for individual permits - the purpose of the carpool program is to reduce the number of vehicles traveling to campus, to reduce Atlanta traffic congestion and to help improve air quality. The incentive to participate is the reduced fee for carpool participants and reduced commuting costs. Allowing individuals to purchase and/or participate in a carpool while holding an individual permit defeats the purpose of the carpool program. What are the rules for carpooling? |
 |
- All participants must be Georgia Tech faculty, staff or students who do not reside on the Georgia Tech Campus or live within 3 straight line miles of the Georgia Tech campus boundaries.
- The carpool permit will allow access to one parking location. All efforts will be made to accommodate reasonable needs of the carpool participants.
- A carpool permit is valid ONLY in the lot for which the permit was issued.
- To be eligible to participate all members of the carpool must turn in their current parking permit (if applicable), thus canceling their present parking access.
- All vehicles that may be used under the carpool permit must be registered.
- A primary driver/contact person must be designated as the primary participant and said primary participant will be responsible for collecting any fees due from the other members of the carpool.
- Registration priority is based on the primary participant.
- In the event of a carpool breaking up, the Georgia Tech Parking and Transportation office must be notified immediately.
- The primary participant will have 30 days to fill the vacancy if the carpool is less than 2 people. If the the vacancy remains unfilled after 30 days, the carpool will be considered voided and the primary permit holder will be assessed the full, pro-rated fee for the parking permit.
- One regular permit will be issued to the carpool's primary person. This hanging permit must be appropriately displayed while parked on the Georgia Tech campus.
- A single access card will be issued to the primary permit holder of the carpool for gated lots. No individual Buzz Cards will be activated to allow access to a gated lot.
- Temporary hangtags (good for one day of free parking per month) in an area DESIGNATED by the Parking and Transportation Services office may be issued for each carpool participant per month, upon request. The temporary hangtag will be issued by the parking office, to the individual carpool participant on the day needed. Temporary permits WILL NOT be carried over to the following month and one participant is not allowed to use another participant's free permit.
- Faculty and staff carpool participants may be eligible for the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program through the 1-87RideFind. The GRH program is operated by the Atlanta Regional Commission. Those eligible will automatically be registered with the 1-87RideFind program after June 30th. For more information on GRH contact carpools@parking.gatech.edu
- In the event the carpool breaks up, members with previous lot assignments will be re-assigned to their former location, provided space is available. If space is not available at the time, members will be assigned to the nearest lot and given priority on a waiting list to be upgraded to the preferred location as soon as space becomes available.
- You may participate in one carpool ONLY.

What is the purpose of the carpool program at Georgia Tech? |
 |
The carpool program is designed to accomplish three things:
