Parking Violations Appeals Boards

Georgia Tech has two Appeals Boards that meet regularly throughout the year to adjudicate appeals submitted by students, faculty, staff and unaffiliated customers. The Student Appeals Board and the Faculty and Staff Appeals Board are staffed by dedicated members of each peer group and both Appeals Boards are empowered to review and render unbiased decisions on all appeals that come before them.

Each Appeals Board has the authority to dispose of a citation in the following manner:

  1. Upholding the citation(s) completely.
  2. Upholding the citation(s), but reducing the fine to half of the original amount due.
  3. Dismissing the citation(s) completely.

Appellants agree (when submitting an appeal) that all decisions made by their respective Appeals Boards are final and binding.

Student Appeals Board

The Student Appeals Board will only hear student appeals. The Board normally meets Monday thru Friday for an hour each day (refer to www.parking.gatech.edu for the posted schedule). Any changes to the schedule will also be posted in a timely manner. Appeals will not be read on the same day they are submitted.

To file an appeal, select the Online Forms menu option on our homepage. Be sure to complete the form entirely as incomplete forms will not be processed. Student appellants are provided the option to select a hearing date in conjunction with their written appeal. If a student appellant desires to appear in person before the Student Appeals Board to present the facts of their written appeal, they can select a hearing date and time that coincides with the posted schedule.

During the hearing, student appellants will be allowed to present facts substantiating their appeal. This presentation will be limited to five (5) minutes. After the presentation, the Appellant will be dismissed and the Board will discuss the facts presented and make a decision. The decision of the Board will be forwarded to the Appellant via e-mail within five (5) business days from the date of the hearing. All decisions made by the Student Appeals Board are final and binding.

Faculty and Staff Appeals Board

The Faculty and Staff Appeals Board will only hear faculty and staff appeals. The Board normally meets twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, at 10:00 AM (see www.parking.gatech.edu for the posted schedule). Any changes to the schedule will be posted in a timely manner.

To file an appeal, select the Online Forms menu option on our homepage. Be sure to complete the form entirely as incomplete forms will not be processed. Appellants should submit all of the necessary facts substantiating their appeal.

The Faculty and Staff Appeals Board will read the online written appeal and make a decision. The decision of the Board will be forwarded to the Appellant via e-mail within 21 days from the date of submission. If the Appellant does not agree with the decision made by the Board, the Appellant may request to appear in person before the Faculty and Staff Appeals Board to present additional facts supporting their written appeal.

This request for a second appeal must be made online at: http://www.parking.gatech.edu/special/faculty_staff_hearing.php

Parking and Transportation Services will schedule all hearings and send notifications by email. During the hearing the Appellant will be limited to five (5) minutes for their presentation to the Board. After the presentation, the Appellant will be dismissed and the Board will review all the facts presented and make a decision. The decision of the Appeals Board will be forwarded to the Appellant via e-mail within five (5) business days from the date of the hearing. All decisions made by the Faculty and Staff Appeals Board on second appeals are final and binding.

Non-Affiliated Customer Appeals

Non-Affiliated (NA) Customers may submit appeals using the same procedures that apply to faculty and staff members as described in the Faculty and Staff Appeals Board section listed above. The only exception, all (NA) appeals will be adjudicated by the designated Parking Representative(s).
